'Sense of optimism' as Post Office talks continue

by isleofman.com 7th April 2011

Talks to avoid a postal strike next week resume today (Thursday).

With members of the Communication Workers Union due to walk out for 24 hours on Tuesday, in a dispute over pay, the two sides met yesterday to try and find a way forward.

Afterwards, Terry Pullinger from the CWU described the talks as 'finely balanced', but said there was a sense of optimism which he hoped could continue.

He is disappointed the situation has been allowed to deteriorate so far, following good relations between the union and management over the last decade, but believes there is a reason (play audio file):

Mr Pullinger says the current talks won't resolve the whole issue and could still fail, but he believes yesterday's meeting was the first step in rebuilding trust between the two parties.
