The chairman of the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority is warning the development of new homes could come to a standstill if Tynwald doesn't approve a ?40 million, five-year programme of sewage treatment work.
Tim Crookall MHK says the Meary Veg plant in Santon is running flat out, and if more investment isn't made the authority would have to start objecting to planning applications because it couldn't cope with any more sewage.
The plans, to be discussed by the court next week, would see treatment plants replaced in the north and west of the Island, as well as a new sewage works near the civic amenity site in Ramsey.
Mr Crookall says without the new facilities, the future looks grim:
