Chairman of Onchan Commissioners Brian Stowell is to stand in the House of Keys general election in September.
Mr Stowell informed the board of his intention on Monday night.
The 59-year-old won a seat on the Onchan board in an uncontested election in 2004 and has been chairman for the past two years. He says he will stand down as chairman of the authority when his term ends in May.
Mr Stowell lives in King Edward Park in Onchan and trained as an electrical engineer. He has worked in the building and plumbing industries, and now runs a livery stable and a property management company.
He is a member of British Mensa and holds a private pilot licence.
Onchan is a three seat constituency, and has been represented by Peter Karran, Adrian Earnshaw and David Quirk since the general election in 2006.
To date Mr Quirk is the only one of those three to confirm to Manx Radio he will be seeking to regain his seat on September 29.
