Gala Concert for Rushen Silver Band

A GALA concert featuring Rushen Silver Band and Leyland Band will take place at the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas, next month.

 

Rushen Silver Band, who celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2009, said it is delighted to announce the concert with world class entertainers Leyland Band which will be held on Saturday, May 14.

 

Recognised as one of the finest brass ensembles in the world, Leyland Band's quality performance, innovative programming and engaging style has been delighting audiences for more than 50 years.

 

The band will be conducted by associate conductor John Doyle for the evening.

 

The event will feature individual performances by Rushen and Leyland with and a massed band performance to finish. 

 

In addition to the concert, members of Leyland Band will work with Rushen Silver Band and its training band Ballafesson Brass over the course of the weekend.

 

Chairman of Rushen Silver Band Thomas Sinden said: "We have had a long association with Leyland Band's Conductor Emeritus Richard Evans, who we are honoured to have as our musical advisor, and we are delighted to be able to bring Leyland Band to the Island.

 

"We are most appreciative of the help of the Isle of Man Arts Council, Manx2.com and Sefton Group plc for helping make the weekend possible.

 

"We would encourage all brass fans to book early for the concert which promises to be a 2011 highlight of the Island's thriving brass band movement."
