'A proud and independent people'

by isleofman.com 5th April 2011

The Isle of Man's future relationship with the United Kingdom was a major theme as the governor designate was welcomed to his new home last night (Monday).

First Deemster David Doyle told Adam Wood the Island was proud of what it had achieved to date, but there was much more work to be done.

Before a distinguished audience, including Cheif Minister Tony Brown, he told him he was confident he would contribute constructively to its continuing constitutional development.

In reply, Mr Wood said he saw the Manx as a proud and independent people (play audio file):

Adam Wood will be sworn in as lieutenant governor of the Isle of Man at Castle Rushen, on Thursday.
