Crutchlow eighth in incident packed Spanish GP

by isleofman.com 3rd April 2011

RAMSEY resident Cal Crutchlow finished eighth at the Spanish MotoGP round at Jerez this afternoon (Sunday).

It was an incident packed race with a number of riders crashing out.

Cal, who started ninth, was lucky to finish the race onboard his Tech 3 Yamaha after an incident which saw him end up in the gravel while in fifth place.

Spanish rider and reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo finished first while fellow countryman Dani Pedrosa, riding for Repsol Honda, was second.

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi made up for a poor qualifying position of 12th by overtaking a number of riders early in the race, only to crash and take out Casey Stoner as they battled for second place.

Rossi was able to get back on his Ducati and finished fifth, but Stoner wasn't so lucky and was unable to continue.

The popular Italian was quick to apologise to his Australian rival after the race had ended, causing Stoner to say to the seven time MotoGP world champion: "Your ambition outweighed your talent."
