THE Island's hen harriers will feature on The One Show on BBC One tomorrow.
The show's wildlife reporter Mike Dilger and a small film crew visited the Island in January to film a piece on the animals.
Hen harriers tend to roost communally during the winter months and the Island's reputation as a mecca for hen harriers is what attracted the crew to film here.
Hen harriers have been filmed coming into roost at Close Sartfield in the Ballaugh Curraghs in the past, but on this occasion a site on the Forestry, Amenity and Lands Directorate estate was chosen.
Shaun Gelling, the forestry directorate ranger, said: "It would appear that the hen harriers are now congregating in several smaller roosts across the Island. After consultation with Chris Sharpe from Manx Bird Life and several reconnaissance visits, this particular site was chosen to film the birds."
Chris and Shaun also worked together on choosing the location of the filming hides and the access routes in and out of the site in order to minimise the risk of disturbing the birds.
The feature was filmed over two consecutive evenings and the harriers obliged the crew with the opportunity to catch some stunning images on both occasions.
The One Show will be screened on Monday, April 4, at 7pm.
