Onchan MHK to ask nine out of 10 questions in House of Keys

by isleofman.com 1st April 2011

IT looks set to become the Peter Karran show at next week's House of Keys sitting.

The Onchan MHK will ask nine out of the 10 questions for oral answer on Tuesday.

Douglas east MHK Brenda Cannell is the only other MHK asking a question.

Mr Karran's list of questions includes asking the Chief Minister Tony Brown to make a statement on government's policy on off-island business travel by Members of Tynwald.

He will also ask Health Minister David Anderson MHK about the number of specialist dentists employed by the salaried service and whether there is a need for general dental practitioners when "most of the work carried out is of a specialist nature".

The recent plane crash at Cork Airport will also come under discussion when Mr Karran asks the Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK about whether or not his department is intending to participate into the investigation of the crash on February 10.

He will also ask him: "Whether his department has sufficient powers to protect the interests and reputation of the Isle of Man in relation to airlines using Manx in their name and therefore suggesting that they are under Manx supervision?"

Mrs Cannell's question will focus around breast cancer. She will ask the Health Minister how many women were diagnosed with the disease between September 2010 and March 31, 2011.

There is one question for written response this week. It comes from Peel MHK Tim Crookall who will ask Economic Development Minister Allan Bell MHK how many staff are working at Manx Radio, what their salary is, and the total expenses claimed by each employee.
