Milntown gardens re-open to the public

by isleofman.com 3rd April 2011

THE gardens at Milntown in Ramsey have re-opened to the public – with a new look.

Over the winter the gardens have been substantially remodelled under the direction of Richard Lucas, an award winning garden designer from Shropshire.

Extensive new beds have been shaped in the walled garden. These will be planted throughout the year with a huge variety of colourful perennials and shrubs.

New paths have been created and part of the kitchen garden has been turned into a plant nursery with hundreds of tiny pots cradling new plants, before they are laid out in the beds.

The surrounds of the millpond have been cleared which allows more light to penetrate the nearby woodland which has also been enhanced with more pathways.

Disabled access has been improved and there are now two mobility scooters held at the venue which have been provided by Manx Radio’s Dream Catcher Appeal.

Later in the year the house will be open for tours, two afternoons per week. This will mark the first time the house has been opened to the general public.
