BBC TV visit Island to film Royal Maundy Service recipients

by isleofman.com 2nd April 2011

BBC TV visited the Island this week to film some of the Island recipients who will take part in the Queen's Royal Maundy Service.

The crew from the UK were filming in preparation for a live broadcast of the Maundy Thursday service, which will take place at Westminster Abbey, on the Queen's 85 birthday, on April 21.

John Kennaugh, a farmer and Manx Radio broadcaster, was filmed braving some wet, windy and misty conditions, on the hills with the sheep in lamb.

Some of the 40 recipients chosen by the Isle of Man's Bishop Robert Paterson to attend the service were also filmed as they got to know each other over afternoon tea at St John's Methodist Chapel.

This year is the first year that the Maundy Thursday service will be broadcast live.

The footage from the Isle of Man is expected to be featured at the start of the programme.
