Twitter enthusiasts raise money to make children’s dreams come true

by isleofman.com 1st April 2011

MORE than 150 Twitter and Facebook enthusiasts have raised £3375.35 for the local charity Wish Upon A Dream.

Last week enthusiasts took part in Isle of Man Twestival – an event which brings online communities together offline for charity.

An evening of entertainment, including a live band with karaoke, performances by local musicians Chris Flood and Clara Barker and an online auction and raffle, was held last Thursday at Jak’s Bar and Steakhouse in Douglas.

A Twestival social media clinic was also held for people interested in learning how to use social media platforms.

Twestival was sponsored by Manx Telecom. Marketing manager Voirrey Barron said: "Thank you to all who gave so generously for Wish Upon A Dream and to Twestival organisers for creating such a fun event. A real highlight was seeing how the Isle of Man dominated the global Twestival Twitterfeed."

Wish Upon A Dream grants wishes to sick children. The money raised from Twestival will be used to grant the wishes of two children – Molly, 7, who will soon be on her way to Disney World, Florida with her parents and brother and Cole, 9, who will get a chance to watch Manchester United play at Old Trafford with his family.
