MORE than 40 children with disabilities took part in the first Disability Football Festival for Island secondary schools on Tuesday.
Barclays Wealth has been working in conjunction with the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure's sports development unit to help develop and increase the number of sporting opportunities available for all children with disabilities.
Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "This Disability Football Festival is a great new opportunity for children to get involved in sport.
"By working in partnership with the Department of Education and Children we can now offer children more choice and variety in the sports and activities that we can offer during their school time.
"Training sessions and regular sporting festivals are a great way for children to develop key fundamental skills that can be nurtured and developed over time. Specific training and sporting festivals can help encourage children to participate in this sport in future."
Head of community affairs at Barclays Wealth Stuart Nelson said: "It is with great pleasure that Barclays has got involved with this initiative.
"The work the Manx Sport and Recreation team have done is invaluable, and we are delighted to support them."
There are various club and training sessions that children can now attend. For more information contact disability sports development officer Zoe Carney on 688575 or email Zoe.Carney@gov.im
