All aboard for Mother's Day

by isleofman.com 30th March 2011

THIS Sunday is Mothering Sunday – traditionally a day when we all show and tell our mums how much we care.

The day is celebrated worldwide but always takes place on the middle Sunday of Lent in the United Kingdom.

This year Isle of Man Railways is offering families the chance to say "thanks mum" by organising a free train trip for all mothers.

Steam trains will depart from Douglas and Port Erin at 9.50am, 11.50am, 1.50pm and 3.50pm on Sunday and mums will ride for free when accompanied by their children.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "The Mother's Day treat on the steam railway is the first of a varied programme of special events planned on the Heritage Railways this summer. I hope lots of people take the chance to say thank you to their mum and claim a free trip."

On disembarkation mums can use their free tickets to claim a Mother's Day cupcake at the Whistlestop Café in Port Erin or a free gift at The Tickethall in Douglas.

Full details of this offer can be found online at www.iombusandrail.info/mothersday.
