The Isle of Man government has implemented ten pieces of legislation in the last month to freeze the assets of Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi and his associates.
In the House of Keys today (Tuesday), Chief Minister Tony Brown confirmed that legislation to implement the United Nations' most recent list of individuals subject to an asset freeze came into effect on March 25, 2011.
He also strongly rejected a suggestion from Michael MHK David Cannan, the member who asked the question.
Mr Cannan said there were hundreds of Isle of Man registered non-resident companies operating throughout the world and, if the Island wanted to have a good global reputation, it should have immediately introduced a freezing of assets on 27th February, as other governments did.
