A CHARITY shop in Douglas which specialises in formal wear including wedding dresses and ball gowns is on the move.
The Crossroads Caring for Carers' shop is moving from the second floor of its charity shop in Victoria Street to the shop next door, number 55.
The new premises will give the charity shop more room to showcase its stock which includes a range of formal wear and accessories.
Money raised from the sale of these items helps the charity provide care and services to people in the Isle of Man with care needs and carers who need a well deserved break.
Karen Thomson, Crossroads' business manager, said: "The shop is a fantastic way to find the perfect outfit for a wedding or formal occasion or to just treat yourself without blowing your budget.
"Items for sale in the shop are high quality donations or are sold on a commission basis. This is a great opportunity to have a look around, clear out your old wardrobe and get ready for summer with a new one."
This year Crossroads' has provided 52,000 hours of respite care to carers and 52,000 hours of services, 10,000 hours of that care comes from the public’s support through the charity shops.
The decision to move the shop will also help Crossroads' social enterprise scheme – Community Venture. This scheme will take over the vacant space and provide employment training for adults with learning disabilities. The training will help them become part of the community by giving them life skills and helping their parent carers have a more sustainable respite break.
The new charity shop will open on Monday, April 11 at 10am. There will be a launch event held to mark the occasion on Saturday, April 16. Drinks and nibbles will be served throughout the day and promotional prizes for shoppers will be on offer.
Crossroads' charity shops on Victoria Street and Prospect Terrace are open Monday to Saturday 10am–4pm.
