THE Villa Marina Arcade in Douglas played host to two world class guitarists on Saturday night.
Amrit Sond and Clive Carroll performed an eclectic mix of music to an intimate - but highly appreciative - audience.
The show was opened by Amrit who performed his own compositions which contained a mix of world music and experimental sounds.
He often used his guitar as a percussion instrument and between numbers relayed some light-hearted anecdotes.
The Villa Arcade is perfect for these types of performances where the audience listen intently and enjoy music that certainly would not be considered mainstream.
He was then followed by Clive Carroll who seems fluent in just about every style possible. He is one of the greatest musicians you are ever likely to hear.
Clive's set featured everything from Elizabethan lute music to the Postman Pat theme Chet Atkins style! Somewhat bizarrely it worked.
He had numerous funny anecodotes from his experience of performing all around the world and there has probably never been a guitar hero who is so down to earth.
I have now seen him perform on several occasions and his shows have always been interesting and fun.
Both guitarists play instrumental music and the only singing of the entire night came from the show's promoter Jonno Gollow of JonnoPromotions who joined Amrit and Clive for their own interpretation of the Bob Dylan classic All Along The Watchtower which served as the finale of the evening.
All in all it was a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday night and while both guitarists certainly deserved a larger audience those who were lucky enough to see such an enjoyable show will certainly remember it.
