Government's "On Your Doorstep" exhibition attracts large numbers to the Villa Marina

by isleofman.com 27th March 2011

THE thirst for information about the huge number of activities available all year round in the Isle of Man was emphasised yesterday when large numbers of local residents attended the first “On Your Doorstep” exhibition at the Villa Marina.

The government-organised event had been expected to attract a good response, but the popularity of the event appeared to exceed all expectations as people flooded through the doors throughout Saturday.

Exhibitors on the day included a wide variety of the activities that are sometimes taken for granted on the Isle of Man - together with many others. Exhibitors included adventure experiences, food producers, diving, aviation, railways, transport, heritage sites, mv Karina, museums, ghost tours, arts and wildlife.

A stand was also taken by the Commonwealth Youth Games organisers, to promote the need for more volunteers to assist at the Isle of Man’s biggest sporting event of the year in September.

Also very popular were the free samples of food provided by local producers - and the two cup cake stalls were sold out long before the doors closed at 4pm and both could easily have both sold many more of their very popular products.

Radio station 3FM provided broadcasts throughout the day and the volume and the enthusiasm of the visitors to the free exhibition looks like it won’t be long before another similar event is staged in the future.
