FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire at Four Roads, Port St Mary, on Thursday night.
Two appliances from Port Erin attended the scene just after 11.45pm following a report of a fire in the kitchen.
Station officer Nigel Cain said: "On arrival the house was found to be heavily smoke logged.
"Firefighters using breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using a hose reel assisted by thermal imaging equipment to help them see through the smoke.
"The fire was quickly brought under control but fire crews remained in attendance to clear smoke and await the arrival of the gas company to make safe a boiler that had been damage by the heat of the fire.
"The fire is thought to have been caused by wood being stored too close to a wood burning stove and subsequently catching alight due to radiated heat.
"The fire was discovered by the occupier and no-one was hurt during the incident.
"Before leaving the property the fire crews ensured that the wood that had been ignited by the stove was removed and fitted a free smoke detector to the property to enhance the future safety of the occupants."
