A chance to learn an ancient art

by isleofman.com 26th March 2011

Anyone who has fancied trying their hand at ploughing with horses, but doesn't know where to start, could do worse than visit Starvey Farm today (Saturday).

The Isle of Man Heavy Horse Society is holding a working day, with demonstrations of the ancient art and a chance have a go under expert supervision!

The society is hoping the event will encourage more Island residents to become involved in ploughing with horses, particularly younger people, who could pass on the skills to future generations.

As well as ploughing, there will also be a chance to try driving a pair of horses dragging a log around a simple course.

The event is from 11am to 4pm, it's free to attend and is open to all, with no experience necessary.

Food will be available throughout the day and there's free parking.

Starvey Farm is on the Starvey Road and can be found by following signs on the Switchback Road.
