CASTLETOWN resident Jonathan Rea finished the first qualifying session at the Donington round of the World Superbike Championship in a surprising 16th place.

He had been third in free practice this morning.

Leading the qualifying session was reigning world champion Max Biaggi riding for Aprilia, with Yamaha's Marco Melandri in second for Yamaha and Carlos Checa, onboard a Ducati, in third.
