Dentist disciplined but continues to work

A Douglas dentist has had conditions imposed on his private practice after being found guilty of misconduct by the General Dental Council.

Ian Hulme-Rigby of the Douglas Dental Spa in Ridgeway Street is ruled to have behaved inappropriately, unprofessionally and not in the best interest of his patients.

The allegations against the 56-year-old date back to his time working in Bolton in Lancashire six years ago.

He was found to have given patients 'dangerous' unmeasured drug doses to sedate them; failing to maintain accurate and complete records of drugs administered and allowing his dog into the surgery.

Mr Hulme-Rigby - who has been 33 years in practice and was ruled to be a competent dentist who cares for his patients - has vowed to comply fully with the conditions which include being supervised in the workplace, addressing deficiencies in infection control and undertaking an audit of record keeping.

He’s also been banned from administering or prescribing certain sedating drugs.
