The Isle of Man may soon play a bigger role in coastguard duties in Manx waters.
Liverpool Coastguard is currently contracted to deal with emergencies off the Island, but there are plans to significantly reduce coastguard stations around the British Isles, prompting concerns over how the Island could be affected.
Director of harbours Mike Brew says local knowledge and capabilities means the Manx operation may now be extended, without significant extra cost:
