Island one step closer to a Manx bank holiday?

by isleofman.com 22nd March 2011

A PROPOSAL to bring in a national day for the Isle of Man has been forwarded to the Council of Ministers Governance Committee.

The issue about having a Manx bank holiday was raised in the House of Keys earlier today by north Douglas MHK Bill Henderson.

He asked Chief Minister Tony Brown if the Island would be bringing in a day to celebrate Illiam Dhone or another Manx worthy.

The Chief Minister said: "I am sure that everyone understands the sentiments behind the Honourable Member's question that we should, as appropriate, recognise our national identity.

"Any proposal for creating such a day would require careful consideration in terms of justification, implications and cost.

"I am content to refer the proposal as to whether the Island should introduce an additional National Day to the Council of Ministers Governance Committee for consideration."

What do you think? Should we have a Manx bank holiday and if so when should it be? Let us know by leaving a comment below:
