A MAN convicted of death by dangerous driving has been jailed for 16 months.
Keiran Bernard Baxter, 22, of Peel, also received a seven year driving disqualification and will be required to re-take his test when his ban is up.
He received his sentence from Deemster Doyle yesterday (Monday).
Mr Baxter caused the death of motorcyclist David Lees, 36, of Santon in a traffic collision in April last year.
Detective Inspector Terry Stephen, who was the senior investigating officer, said: "This has been a long and very thorough investigation and I am extremely grateful for the massive amount of work my team have carried out.
"I am very satisfied that the court has seen fit to convict Mr Baxter, based upon the evidence presented, but it must be remembered why that investigation began.
"Nearly one year ago David Lees tragically lost his life in a road traffic collision near to the Creg-ny-Baa.
"The investigation that followed was initiated in order to establish what occurred and on this occasion I feel we have done that.
"Our thoughts go out to the Lees family and friends."
A message from Mr Lees' family said: "The family of David Lees would like to thank all our family and friends from all over the Island and worldwide, for all the kind thoughts and help that we have received during the past very difficult 11 months and especially to the Isle of Man Constabulary for their help, guidance and friendship."
