A GRILL pan left on a cooker caused a fire at a home in Ballachrink Drive, Onchan, in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Two fire appliances from Douglas attended the scene at 12.49am.
Station officer John Kelly said: "Crews from Douglas were called to a report of smoke issuing from a property in Ballachrink Drive, Onchan.
"On arrival crews discovered all persons had evacuated the house but the property was still heavily smoke logged.
"Crews gained entry into the property wearing breathing apparatus to locate the source of the fire and discovered a pan had been left on the cooker, however upon inspection the fire was out.
"There were no injuries to the occupier but the ambulance attended as a precautionary measure to check on the occupant who may have suffered slight smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported."
The fire service is again highlighting the importance of having smoke alarms fitted.
Station officer Kelly added: "A smoke alarm is the easiest way to alert you to the danger of fire, giving you precious time to escape.
"Your smoke alarm will only save your life if installed correctly and fitted with a working battery.
"As part of the ongoing safety initiative (working smoke alarms save lives - push the button not your luck) we are continuing to offer free home safety visits to the Manx public.
