Workshops and training events for directors

by isleofman.com 21st March 2011

A CHARTERED director is to arrange workshops and training events which will aim to improve board performance.

The first event arranged by Ann Clayton will be held on Tuesday, July 12, in association with the IDM Group.

Ann said that for a number of the events she will be bringing in guest presenters who have extensive experience of working with boards of all sizes in the UK and internationally.

She said: "Many Isle of Man directors have told me that they want locally available good quality workshops and seminars that are relevant to their role in the board room.

"I firmly believe that the better the performance of the board the more successful the organisation is likely to be and that this applies to all sizes of organisation from the large international group to the small family business.

"Therefore I intend to provide a variety of events from full day workshops to shorter seminars covering topics and skills relevant to directors and the board room whatever the type or size of the organisation."

The full day workshop on July 12 will provide a structured practical situation which enables participants to make decisions in a controlled environment and recognise the impact of those decisions without having the associated real life consequences.

Participants will assume board roles to tackle the strategic scenario that is presented to them during the course of the day.

The evolving scenario will have key decision points which will be reviewed and discussed throughout the day.

On the following day, Wednesday, July 13, optional private meetings will be offered for individuals to obtain personal feedback and other guidance on their own behaviour and performance or to discuss a significant issue in their organisation.

The expected learning outcomes will include:

*An understanding of how behaviours can affect the operation of a board

*Deepened understanding of effective Corporate Governance

*Improved ability to make effective strategic decisions

*Greater realisation of the strategic consequences made

For this workshop there is a discount for bookings received by March 31. For further details, or to be added to Ann's mailing list for future events, contact her on annclayton@manx.net
