Fire service rescue horse stuck in a ditch

by isleofman.com 20th March 2011

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a horse that was stuck in a ditch in Jurby Road, Ramsey, yesterday (Saturday).

The incident happened at 7.50am and crews from Ramsey and Douglas attended the scene.

Station officer Nigel Cain said a vet was called to administer care to the animal and medicate it so that it could be handled safely.

He explained: "Fire crews working in difficult circumstances managed to secure strops around the horse and it was lifted to safety utilising a telehandler (lifting machine) provided by a local farmer.

"The condition of the horse is not known but it did not appear to be hurt by the fall into the ditch - or the subsequent rescue - and was led away for a more thorough check.

"The Fire and Rescue service would like to thank all those that assisted - and offered their assistance - which was gratefully received."
