Old Boys maintain lead; Gymns out of drop zone

by isleofman.com 19th March 2011

They may be running out of games but Old Boys have maintained their seven point lead in the Canada Life Premier League.

That’s after a fine 2-1 win at St Mary’s.

Second half goals from Craig Stewart and Liam Buckley settled a hard-fought encounter.

St George’s remain title favourites and moved back into second spot – with four games in hand on the leaders – after a 5-0 home win over Corinthians.

Callum Morrissey was among the Geordies’ marksmen.

Reigning champions Rushen continued their hoodoo over arch rivals Peel to finally end the westerners’ outside title hopes.

Goals from Michael Baker and Jordan Watterson, plus an own goal, sealed a 3-2 success at Douglas Road.

Peel had taken the lead through Terry Rigaux and, after trailing 2-1, levelled through Marc Kelly but Rushen enjoyed a fine win.

Gymns are out of the relegation zone for the first time this season after a 3-2 win at Ayre United.

Goals from Max Stokoe, Michael McCarrick and David Reece secured a second successive league victory.

Chris Duggan and Steven Parrish replied for Ayre.

Two from Jamie Moffitt and one apiece from Robbie Campbell, Matty Kelly and Lewis Qualtrough fired Ramsey to a 5-0 win at Michael who now are in the drop zone.

Castletown remain in 10th place but are still anxiously looking over their shoulder.

After an encouraging opening half, they went down 5-1 at Laxey.

Alex Crawley scored for Town but, after going in 1-1 at the break, the Miners took charge, thanks to a Lee Cowley hat-trick and one each from Josh Thomas and Nigel Beattie.
