Cav to ride McLaren bike

by isleofman.com 18th March 2011

What does Mark Cavendish have in common with Formula One champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton?

The answer is McLaren!

Cav will ride a new lightweight bike developed by the F1 team in the Milan-San Remo one day classic race on Saturday (march 19).

Sports editor Tim Glover reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Engineers and experts in carbon-fibre technology at the team base in Woking have spent the past nine months developing the S-Works McLaren Venge.

It is designed to be lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamically efficient.

It's not the first time a Formula One team has got involved in cycling, as Lotus created the revolutionary bike that Chris Boardman rode to Olympic gold in the 4,000 metres individual pursuit event in Barcelona in 1992.

Two other riders in the HTC-Highroad team will ride the new matt-black machines in the Milan-San Remo, Mark Renshaw and Bernie Eisel.
