Abacus raise over ?1,000 for Island's neonatal unit

by isleofman.com 18th March 2011

THE Island's neonatal unit has received a donation of more than £1,000 from local company Abacus.

Abacus raised £1,170.80 for the neonatal unit (NNU) - previously known as the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) – at Noble's Hospital.

This donation marks the 10th annual donation from the company in support of their ongoing work to babies and their families in the Island.

Lead nurse Paul McCann said: "NNU place all donations they receive into a fund which is then used to purchase any new equipment or develop existing facilities for the unit.

"All donations received play a part in ensuring the unit is fully equipped and in full working order so that we can concentrate on providing the best care possible to our patients and their families. To that extent we would like to thank Abacus for their generosity and support over the last ten years and for their latest donation. We are very grateful."

John Corteen, shareholder services manager at Abacus and a member on Abacus' Corporate Responsibility Committee, said: "Abacus has now been donating to the Island's Special Care Baby Unit for ten years and we hope to continue this support for the foreseeable future.

"NNU is such a worthwhile charity and the unit should be congratulated on the continuous care and support they provide to babies and their families.”

Abacus raised the money through a number of small fundraising initiatives, staff and company donations.
