Westlife confirmed for Manx Telecom Bay Festival

by isleofman.com 18th March 2011

WESTLIFE will headline the last night of the Manx Telecom Bay Festival in June.

The band, one of the UK's biggest selling groups of all time, will play on Sunday, June 19.

Westlife have clocked up 14 number one singles with only Elvis and The Beatles topping this record. The band also holds the record for the most consecutive number one singles in the UK and are the UK's biggest selling band with seven number one albums.

It will be the first time in the Island for the four piece band, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan, who are managed by X Factor judge Louis Walsh.

Festival promoter Jamie Irving said: "Westlife are simply one of the most consistently popular artists of the last decade and it's thrilling to secure them for this year's Manx Telecom Bay Festival. Their catalogue of hits is just breathtaking and fans can look forward to one number one hit straight after another. It guarantees a totally memorable night."

Fans can expect a catalogue of hits including Flying Without Wings, Fool Again, My Love, What Makes A Man, Uptown Girl and World of Our Own.

Jamie continued: "To make the night more intimate the total number of tickets on sale has been reduced to 4,500. There were 8,500 for Elton John and they all sold out in 46 minutes so our advice is don’t hang around.

"Next week we will be announcing the line up for the Circus Tent which is extremely exciting and will not disappoint the fans who want to see original artists from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s."

Westlife will be supported on the night by Cascada and Example who have notched up 15 million album sales and 35 million single sales respectively.

Westlife are being brought to the Island in conjunction with the Isle of Man Post Office.

The news of the arrangement between the Bay Festival and Isle of Man Post Office comes in the same week as it was announced a majority of postal workers in the Island have voted in favour of strike action over pay.

Tickets go on sale at 8am on Wednesday, March 23. Standing tickets cost £45 and seated tickets start from £49.50. They can be purchased from www.hmvtickets.com.
