Flexible learners experience life at sea

Isle of Man charity Sailing for the Disabled is helping six pupils from Ramsey Grammar 'learn the ropes' in a project to help them build teamwork, self esteem and independence.

The 13 and 14-year-olds from the school's Flexible Learning Area are mid-way through a six week intensive sailing course, aboard the yacht Pride of Mann ll.

Already the youngsters have taken the boat out into Douglas Bay, helmed her through the bridge and moored her back on her berth.

It's a unique project to expand the scope of special needs education on the Island.

Sailing for the Disabled's Martin Sewell says sailing can prove a tonic for many different groups:
