THREE teenagers were recognised for their courage and quick thinking by the Chief Constable of the Isle of Man Constabulary today.
Mike Langdon awarded Jordan Butler, 15, Shane Garrett, 15, and Greg Radcliffe, 14, a Chief Constable's Commendation award for showing initiative and bravery in saving the life of a young women who had entered the sea with the "apparent intention of taking her own life".
The trio were honoured at the annual awards ceremony which took place this afternoon at The Sefton Hotel.
Also acknowledged were PC Darren Burns and PC Paddy Moore who were awarded a commendation for professionalism. The duo played a significant part in ensuring a man who was threatening suicide at a cliff edge was persuaded to undergo medical treatment.
John Faragher was also awarded a commendation for courage, patience and initiative, for showing "calm, low-key courage" at the same incident.
PCs Scott Fielding and David Thommeny received a commendation for saving the life of a cyclist who had fallen dangerously ill. The officers "acted calmly and professionally in difficult circumstances".
Inspector Keith Kinrade was also awarded a commendation for his excellence in leading change. He was commended for designing and delivering a rapid modernisation of the constabulary’s approach to staff development.
The Chief Constable's Award Ceremony took place at The Sefton Hotel.
