A NUMBER of police officers who worked on the investigation into the murder of a Douglas builder have been commended for their work.
The officers were awarded Chief Constable's Commendations at the annual award ceremony which was held at The Sefton Hotel this afternoon.
Simon Paul Leece was found guilty of murder and arson in August last year, after a fire he started at a property at Demesne Road in March 2009, killed 61 year old Terry Losh. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Chief Inspector Kevin Wilson and Inspector Phil Shimmin were recognised for their leadership, professionalism and skill. The two inspectors were described as providing "strong, motivational leadership and expert direction to a demanding, difficult and complex murder investigation".
Acting Inspector Jed Bibby and Detective Constable Jamie Tomlinson were also commended for exceptional commitment and attention to detail for preparing work "of the highest possible standard by managing the detailed preparation of the case".
Detective Constable Andrew Haddock was also commended for professionalism, leadership and tireless effort. His work was described as taking "painstaking effort and skill, which directly led to the securing of vital forensic evidence that helped bring about the conviction of Simon Paul Leece."
The awards were presented by the Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul Haddacks.
