No change of heart on kerbside collections

Onchan Commisisoners are standing by their decision to end kerbside recycling from September.

Members have been criticised by environmental groups for the decision not to continue, when a three year pilot scheme ends later this year.

But chairman of the local authority Brian Stowell says none of the arguments in support of kerside collections have persuaded them the scheme is good value for ratepayers, or is helping save the planet.

Onchan has been part of a joint recycling venture with Douglas and Braddan, who may now go it alone.

Mr Stowell says Onchan is sticking to its guns:
