Island residents urged to help earthquake victims

by isleofman.com 16th March 2011

A Manx group is appealing for donations to provide vital shelter for earthquake and tsunami survivors in Japan.

The Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann is raising money for ShelterBox, an organisation which provides emergency accommodation and lifesaving supplies for people in disaster hit areas.

A box providing essentials for a family of ten can be bought for ?500.

In 2010, the local club raised enough funds to provide 20 boxes for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The club's international chairman John Quaye says it's more than just a tent (play audio file):

Further information can be found on the charity's website - shelterbox.org - and to find out how to donate you can contact Mr Quaye on 692125.
