Has all-Island taxis plan been abandoned?

The infrastructure minister appears to have bowed to pressure from taxi drivers and withdrawn plans for an all-Island taxi licencing system.

Phil Gawne's decision to remove from the order paper the item which could have implemented the controversial proposal was relayed to Tynwald by the President, Noel Cringle, just before members broke for lunch.

A small group of taxi drivers gathered outside the court this morning (Tuesday) to protest against the plans.

After the announcement was made, a couple of them gave their reaction to Manx Radio:
