A GRANT from the Manx Lottery Trust has enabled the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra to purchase new musical instruments.
The orchestra has already purchased a euphonium for one of its members and will purchase other instruments which it would not normally be able to due to the high cost.
Orchestra member Ben Dunlop will play the euphonium in a concert to mark the start of the orchestra's season at the All Saint's Church on Saturday, March 26 at 7.30pm.
It will be a night of film and military music to mark the orchestra's twin themes this year.
Paul Dunderdale, musical director, said: "We hope to perform such classics as the themes from the films 633 Squadron, Where Eagles Dare and Nimrod from Enigma Variations as well as some light numbers including Bohemian Rhapsody, made famous by Freddie Mercury and Queen."
Chairman Michael Morrison said: "Members are looking forward to playing at All Saints as our Christmas concert had to be postponed due to the weather and we missed the warm, welcoming atmosphere we experience in this venue."
Admission to the concert is £5 for adults and £3 for children, payable at the door, with refreshments available during the interval.
A Wind and Brass Weekend will take place from April 15 to April 17, which will be led by Phil Robinson from the Kings School in Chester.
This will be open to all musicians playing brass, woodwind and percussion instruments and this year it is being held in the Easter school holidays to encourage as many students as possible to attend.
