COLIN Tyrer fulfilled a dream at the weekend when he became the first Manx player to lift a title at the Isle of Man Darts Festival at the weekend.
He came through a 192-strong field to beat Scot Andy Murray 2-0 in front of a packed Royal Hall in the Villa Marina on Sunday to clinch the Okells 'Early Bird' trophy and £600.
The event kicked off proceedings on Thursday evening at the four-day darts extravaganza and was played down to the final two, which meant that Manx number one Colin was able to realise his darting dream to play on the stage at the Villa.
It was the first appearance of a Manx player on the stage in the 26-year history of the festival.
Spurred on by a large contingent of Manx supporters, Colin stamped his authority on the game from the outset, hitting a 121 and two 100s to take the opening leg.
Andy, from Falkirk, left himself 161 after just nine darts in the second but then went on to miss an agonising 12 match-levelling doubles, as Colin fired in double 10 to claim victory, punching the air in delight.
Colin said: "This means everything to me. I've always wanted to get on stage and winning means just everything.
"In darts you have to have luck with you and today Andy missed a lot of doubles to let me in.
"I can't believe I've won, I'm really just speechless and I don't think this will sink in for some time.
"It is my greatest victory in darts."
Ted 'The Count' Hankey won the main men's event while Deta Hedman won the women's title.
