Maundy recipients have a history lesson

A group of Isle of Man residents found out more about their impending visit to the Queen at the weekend.

St German's Cathedral in Peel played host to a talk from the Lord High Almoner, Bishop of Manchester the Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch, who explained the history and customs behind Royal Maundy.

Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday, will see the Queen distribute small silver coins known as Maundy money as symbolic alms to 170 people, including 40 from the Isle of Man.

Bishop Robert says it was difficult to get the authorities to consider involving the Isle of Man in the service:
