Pier celebration heavy on nostalgia

by isleofman.com 12th March 2011

A chance to look back and forward at the same time.

That's how a 'Celebrate the Pier' event in Ramsey today (Saturday) is being billed.

Those attending will be able to recall memories of the halcyon days of the Queen's Pier, see a display of photographs and paintings, and enjoy refreshments.

The Victorian structure is in urgent need of repair and safety work, and there is hope it can be fully restored once the government's finances improve.

In the meantime, nearly ?2 million has been earmarked to preserve parts of it.

Vice chairman of the Friends of the Queen's Pier Michael Tramontana, says today's event will promote the pier (play audio file):

The 'Celebrate the Pier' event runs for two hours, from 2pm.
