MANX Telecom has been announced as the major sponsor for the second Isle of Man Twestival.

The Twestival, or Twitter Festival, will take place on Thursday, March 24, and will bring together online communities offline for a fundraising event.

Organiser Sherrilynne Starkie said: "Manx Telecom is the perfect partner for Isle of Man Twestival. As a brand it touches just about every home and business on the Island and as a telecoms and internet leader, the social media fit couldn't be better."

Twestival is the largest global social media fundraising initiative and this year more than 200 cities will take part.

Voirrey Barron, marketing communications manager at Manx Telecom, said: "Hundreds of millions of people use Facebook and Twitter and this trend is playing out in the Isle of Man with tens of thousands of people using our products and services to tweet and catch up with their friends.

"We are delighted to support this global social media event especially as funds raised locally will go to an Isle of Man charity."

Money raised through the event will go to the charity Wish Upon A Dream which grants wishes for sick children in the Island.

The sponsorship deal includes the provision of goods, services and a cash donation.

The Isle of Man Twestival will take place on Thursday, March 24, at Jaks Bar and Steakhouse in Douglas.
