IT looks like the centenary of the Mountain Course has gripped the imagination of TT fans.
The Steam Packet is reporting a "healthy increase" in forward bookings for this year's event.
It said on a like-for-like basis, in comparison to this time last year, forward bookings for motorcycles are up seven per cent while passenger forward bookings show an increase of 10 per cent.
Around 10,300 bikes travelled to the event last year.
Chief executive Mark Woodward said: "With 2011 being the centenary of the Mountain Course this may be having an impact on forward bookings at this stage.
"The TT is such a popular event that bookings for peak sailings are always made many months in advance.
"Despite the economic downturn it is encouraging to see that the Isle of Man TT still commands an enviable position in the race calendar and attracts so many fans to the Island.
"The introduction of Manannan two years ago was welcomed by race fans and has ensured that they can travel in spacious and comfortable surroundings.
"It is also encouraging to note that our 'TT Taster' offer is once again attracting fans at less busy times of the festival when they may be able to enjoy the TT atmosphere at a slightly more leisurely pace.
"This offer also aims to assist the accommodation sector by attracting TT fans at times when accommodation is more readily available."
The Steam Packet said it is important to note that figures will change and it will not be until the event is over that final figures of passengers travelling to the Island for the TT can be released.
The TT starts on May 30 and runs until June 10.
