Chronic kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable. The disease is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, established renal failure and all cause mortality.
Based on UK figures (NEOERICA 2007) chronic kidney disease affects approximately 8,600 people in the Isle of Man and a significant percentage of these have the potential to progress. Noble's Hospital saw on average 1,288 dialysis patients per year between 2007 and 2010.
