by isleofman.com 9th March 2011

A GIG to launch this year's Big Wheel Blues Festival takes place this Saturday (March 12).

The band 24 Pesos - who will be supported by the Big Wheel Blues Band - will be performing at the Centenary Centre in Peel.

Tickets are £10 and are available from Peter Norris Music and Mostly Manx, Douglas, Celtic Gold, Peel, Shakti Man, Ramsey, Thompson Travel, Port Erin and online by clicking here

The blues festival itself takes place on April 30 and May 1 and this year there is a change of venue from its usual location of the Pavilion in Laxey Glen Gardens to the Villa Marina in Douglas.

Acts include Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges and his band, the Martin Harley Band and James Hunter and his band. For the full line up see www.bigwheelblues.com

For the past few years a launch gig to promote the festival has been staged at Peel.

24 Pesos, who performed at the Big Wheel Blues Festival last year, are one of the fastest rising bands on the British blues scene and play their own brand of raw and rootsy blues mixed with the sound of deep fried southern soul funk.

The band are taking part in a live session on March 15 at BBC Maida Vale Studios to celebrate 25 years of the Paul Jones Rhythm and Blues Show on BBC Radio 2.

The event, which will also feature Marcus Bonfanti and Kyla Brox, will be broadcast on April 25.
