A NUMBER of companies and individuals in the Island have been busy raising money for the Isle of Man Hospice.

Microgaming raised £1,828 for the children's hospice Rebecca House through its annual prize draw. Prizes on offer included a signed Mark Cavendish jersey from the Beijing Olympics.

Roger Raatgever, the chief executive officer at Microgaming, said: "Microgaming is committed to raising funds within the local community and we are very keen to support this fantastic local charity that provides invaluable support to families that really need their help."

Staff from the Manx Electricity Authority raised £500 by holding a dress down day, cake sale and raffle. The staff were raising money in memory of their former colleague Tony Pearson who died suddenly.

The former Captain of the King Edward Bay Golf Club, John McMullan, organised a year of raffles at the club raising £1,000.

A kind hearted couple from Port St Mary, who do not wish to be named, also raised £2,570 by visiting pubs around the Island selling mistletoe over the Christmas and New Year period.
