Seventeen-year-old Grant Halsall finished fifth in the 100 metres backstroke final at the British Swimming Championships in Manchester last night (Monday).

In the heats, he posted a time of 56.34 seconds before going even quicker in the semi-final, at an Isle of Man record standard of 55.72 seconds.

Grant was slightly slower in the final, in which he clocked 56.51 seconds.

It was his first competitive event since he broke his arm and missed out on the Commonwealth Games in Delhi last Autumn.
