A RACE to complete a clockwise lap of the Island's coastal footpath before the sun sets is on.

Teams are being urged to sign up for this year's Race the Sun event which will take place in May.

The event, organised by The Children's Centre, is seen as one of the Island's toughest and most popular team challenges.

Race the Sun is a relay event with teams completing a clockwise lap of the 98 mile Raad ny Foillan footpath before the sun sets. Teams will set out at 5am on Saturday, May 14, from Peel and will aim to finish back in Peel before sunset at 10pm.

The average distance for each leg is 10 miles and runners will race along rugged cliff tops, glens, mountains, tidal estuaries and isolated beaches.

Mark Eastham, fundraising co-ordinator for The Children's Centre, said: "Requiring strength, stamina and agility, this is a fantastic challenge but it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. There is no other race like it at present. Quite simply if you want to take part in an adventurous team event with a difference then look no further than Race the Sun."

Teams can be made up of between five and 10 entrants and it costs £300 per team to enter. To secure your place contact Mark Eastham by e-mailing markeastham@thechildrenscentre.org.im or calling 01624 631917.

Race the Sun is now in its fourth year and so far has raised more than £20,000 for The Children’s Centre’s Mobex project.
