AN EXHIBITION of photographs by artist Eric Glithero is now running on the first floor at Ronaldsway Airport until March 18.
Entitled “An Affectionate Portrait of Peel”, the exhibition is an extension of the one previously shown in Peel. It comprises around 30 large, digital photographic prints that capture some of the essence of Old Peel in contrasting seasonal light.
The first show was held in the Peel Centenary Centre in October last year. At Ronaldsway Airport, Eric has taken advantage of an opportunity offered by director Ann Reynolds and arranged through Isle of Man Advertising’s account manager Tim Shallcross.
Eric trained in fine art (painting and printmaking) at Birmingham School of Art in the Sixties. He now lives in Peel, having retired in 1999 from the role of UK Government inspector. Before this he was Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Derby. Neither job allowed much time for
painting and for the last ten years he has been *catching-up”.
He has only turned to the medium of photography in the last two years and in several of the images it is easy to detect links with the large abstract works represented by six digital prints from his last series of “homage to heroes” paintings.
Since living in Peel, Eric has put together the group that run Films in Peel. He has been accepted as a member of the Sayle Gallery artists and more recently joined the Western Photographic Society.
