Copper cable stolen from Manx Electric Railway

by isleofman.com 4th March 2011

ANOTHER instance of copper theft in the Island has been reported by Police – the third this week.

This time a large quantity of copper cable has been cut down from the overhead power lines of the Manx Electric Railway between Ballagawne Road and Baldrine Road in Baldrine.

It was taken between 12pm on Tuesday and 3pm on Wednesday and police say a vehicle and trailer were probably used to remove the stolen cable from the area.

This is the third instance of copper theft reported this week. On Monday isleofman.com reported the theft of two copper water tanks from the old Noble's Hospital site and on Tuesday the theft of a drum of coated copper wire from the Business Park.

Isleofman.com has approached the Isle of Man Constabulary to determine if there is a link between the three incidents and is waiting for a response.

Anyone with information on the MER copper is asked to contact Onchan Police Station on 01624 675190 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
